At CyberPT our goal is to help promote the physical therapy profession and the individuals who provide physical therapy services. Given the importance of education and the high costs of obtaining such resources, CyberPT has listed links below to various organizations who may be able to assist financially towards the success of individuals involved in the physical therapy profession. Jim McGuire is a physical therapy student at the University of Washington. He decided to be a physical therapist because he believes the human body is fascinating. He loves working with people to help them solve problems. He loves working in an environment that is active, hands-on and full of surprises. He has always enjoyed working with people from a broad diversity of backgrounds. Unfortunately, he went through most of his life uninjured, so he was completely unaware of what physical therapists do. Lucky for him, he skied off a cliff and ruptured his Achilles tendon 3 years ago so he could find out about the best profession for him.

 

Patsy Cantor is a physical therapy student at East Tennessee State University. In her first career she was a machinist and electronics worker. She like the challenge of figuring out a mystery and coming up with innovative products to make tanks and helicopters run more efficiently. She was also a combat lifesaver, not quite a medic, but was trained to think quick on her feet and to save lives. Now she states she gets to use her detective skills on pain, weakness, immobility & instability and finds it so rewarding to see someone regain what they have lost. She loves to exercise, motivate and knows what it feels like to hurt. Everyday she is in the program she knows PT is a perfect fit for her.

Alyssa Marshall is a physical therapy student at Marquette University in Wisconsin. She first became interested in physical therapy after tearing her ACL three years ago. In order to get back to playing soccer she had a physical therapist aid in her rehabilitation process. Her physical therapist was wonderful. She inspired her to become a physical therapist. After she recovered, she continued going to the clinic to volunteer. She fell in love with the atmosphere and more importantly the relationships she built with the patients. When she volunteers there she states it doesn't feel like she is working. That feeling made her realize Physical Therapy is what she was meant to do.

 

Kaitlin Reynolds is a physical therapy student at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. She stated that she wanted to be a physical therapist since she was about 13 years old. She loves that as a health care professional, physical therapists have the benefit of building relationships with their patients. In many other health care professions patients are in and out the door. As a people-person she strives to get to know her patients! Ultimately she would like to be able to help people live their lives in the best way there is - pain free!

Brian Chapman is a physical therapy student at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He reports that his patient-first personality makes physical therapy an excellent career choice for him. He describes himself as a very motivated and hard-working individual which he feels are aspects of his character which match up well with the orthopedic and sports patients that he hopes to work with. He states that he has always enjoyed helping people accomplish their goals, and he feels that physical therapy is an exceptional way to continue to do this. He realizes how difficult it can be for people to recover from injuries. Whether it is getting back to the sports they love or just living pain free, a timely recovery is a must.

 

Andrea Millea is a physical therapy student at Creighton University in Nebraska. She wants to be a physical therapist because she believes it is one of the most fulfilling careers a person can do. Not only will she be helping people regain their highest functional abilities, but she will also be building a relationship with them and helping their mind, body, and soul. The amazing variety of areas and creativeness that come with physical therapy also drew her to the profession, and throughout her time in physical therapy school she has only gotten more and more excited about her future in the healthcare profession as a physical therapist.

Jacqueline Carter is a physical therapy student at Washington University in St. Louis. She wants to be a physical therapist so she can give patients the best care available in order to allow them to live healthier, happier, more fulfilled lives. She believes that enabling people to be physically active with less pain opens the door to fitness, activity and living a healthy lifestyle. She feels that the country needs healthcare change, and by having positive relations with each patient, physical therapists have a unique opportunity to promote this on a day to day basis.

 

Julie Gailey is a physical therapy student at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. She wants to be a physical therapist because she loves working with people, learning about their lives and their unique experiences. She wants to be able to make an impact on someone's health in a way that they wouldn't be able to have without physical therapy. She is especially interested in working with patients with spinal cord and stroke injuries to show them progress can be made.

Maria Nitz is a physical therapy student at the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse. She wants to be a physical therapist because it is a profession that allows her to work directly with people. By being a PT, she is able to utilize her knowledge and skills to better the lives of her patients. It also allows her to continue to learn and to improve her skills for years to come. The physical therapy profession is constantly advancing and she looks forward to taking advantage of the learning opportunities and applying those to her practice. She believes every aspect of physical therapy is interesting to her. Therefore, she has enjoyed every opportunity that has presented to her so far.

 

Tyler Gilson is a physical therapy student at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. There are many reasons why he has chosen the profession of physical therapy. Of all his reasons, the most appealing to him is the job satisfaction of working with people everyday. He believes that being independent of the setting that you work in will allow every therapist the opportunity to touch the lives of many people. He states that helping people is not only rewarding but challenging as well because each patient can present as a new "puzzle" to solve. He was always told that by finding a career that he loves will mean that he will never have to work a day in his life. In choosing physical therapy, he looks forward to never having to work a day in his life.

Allison Allen is a physical therapy student at Concordia University in Wisconsin. She has wanted to become a physical therapist ever since shadowing a physical therapist in high school. Her passion has continued to grown and now she desires to work in the pediatric field. It is her goal to positively impact both children and the families by providing encouragement and improvement in their quality of life. She is excited to enter this field and hopes to provide support to families as well as helping to improve lives.

 

Lara Canham is a physical therapy student at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She would like to be a PT because she has fallen in love with movement and the human body. She also loves the challenge of being a detective, trying to come up with answers to many unexplainable problems that have either acutely or chronically caused others discomfort. She thrives on being given a situation with the goal of making the most out of it, for the sake of helping others. She cannot wait until she is in the field, using her skills and knowledge to help others.

 

Erin Lewis is a physical therapy student at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. She believes helping one return to a functional level is the most rewarding outcome she could imagine for any profession. She would like to be a PT to help people who have experienced devastating injuries, debilitating diseases or were born with congenital abnormalities gain function and live there life to the best of their ability. As a PT, she will get to work with a variety of patients of all different ages and functional levels allowing her to help children take their first steps, others regain the ability to walk, and even help athletes return to the athletic field. The possibilities are endless.

Leigh Watts is a physical therapy student at Duke University in North Carolina. She desires to become a physical therapist in order to serve people and improve their quality of life. She wants to provide encouragement to individuals in need. She has a passion for the pediatric patient population because she loves seeing a child and their parents smile after they have achieved a developmental milestone. She is very excited to begin a career in physical therapy to help change lives!

 

Hannah Andrews is a physical therapy student at Angelo State University in Texas. She is interested in becoming a physical therapist so she can help people regain function. She believes it is important that PT's and PTA's do the best that they can to help improve a patient's function and help to decrease any pain or impairments. Making a difference in someone's life is very important to her, and she hopes she will be able to help change peoples' lives for the better because of the role she will play as a physical therapist.

 

Anne Wysock is a physical therapy student at Midwestern University in Illinois. She has always wanted to pursue a career where she could positively impact peoples lives. She believes physical therapy is a field where she will get to work one on one with patients in order to achieve their goals. She is also passionate about being healthy and active, a characteristic she hopes to share with patients and restore in those who want to return to prior activities.

Kathryn Hickey is a physical therapy student at Bellarmine University in Kentucky. She believes that a career in physical therapy will afford her the opportunity to serve all people in an effort to positively affect their lives. With physical therapy, she feels that it’s not connecting to a person, but working towards their goals, by their terms. She explains that the PT/patient relationship is a give and take relationship where, in the end, everyone wins. She wants to see patients master life skills, return to the activities they love, and positively influence their overall quality of life. As a physical therapist she would like to teach patients how to walk or use assistive devices and invent a way of changing bored exercises to fun ones. She would like to get patients back to their prior level of function, and have fun doing it.

 

Skyler Lynn is a physical therapy student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is interested in becoming a physical therapist because he enjoys listening to people's stories and learning about their goals. He really enjoys helping them meet their goals to be more healthy and active individuals. He states he obtains great satisfaction to see a patient have a change in attitude and outlook on life when they are able to meet their physical therapy goals and do the things they want to do in life!

 

Lauren Chmielewski is a physical therapy student at Marquette University in Wisconsin. She states she was always interested in health care, but had a special love for movement and muscle action. She believes a profession in Physical Therapy would afford her such an opportunity to get closer to this love. As a physical therapist, she would like to be able to assist her patients in achieving more function and efficiency with everyday activities. She believes that by being a physical therapist she will be able to treat the whole person, not just the disorder/injury/disease.

Jessica Smith is a physical therapy student at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Throughout college her parents encouraged her to consider medical school while she saw herself going into veterinary medicine. However, when it came time to start thinking about graduate school applications she realized that neither career path was quite right for her. When she really thought about what she wanted in a career, she realized that her true interest lies in physical therapy. Through a profession such as physical therapy she believes she will be able to make a difference in a patient's life by having the opportunity to develop a relationship with her patient and following through with him or her throughout the rehabilitation process.

 

Barbara Janiszewski is a physical therapy student at Marquette University in Wisconsin. She is pursuing a profession in physical therapy, because she believes there is nothing more rewarding than being able to help a person achieve a better quality of life. She loves working with people and feels that physical therapy is a profession which will allow her to build meaningful relationships with others. She wants to work closely with people to help them overcome obstacles in their lives—whether it’s to be able to perform activities of daily living or to perform at a top sporting level.

 

Stacy King is a physical therapy student at Hardin-Simmons University in Texas. Her interest and exposure to physical therapy dates back to high school when she suffered an injury requiring rehabilitation. She responded very well to physical therapy and was extremely impressed with her therapist’s knowledge, as well as with his ability to encourage and motivate her with her recovery. Because of her past experiences she decided to pursue physical therapy, because she wants to be a positive and enthusiastic influence for other individuals during their road to recovery. Through her clinical experiences so far, she believes she is blessed to have experienced the unmatched reward of being able to help improve and enrich other lives. She is excited to grow as a student and eager to mature as a clinician.

Emily Jaehnig is a physical therapy student at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Ever since she was young she knew that she wanted a type of career that is one of service to others. She is pursuing a career in physical therapy, because she believes she has the skills and ambition to be part of a vital aspect of healthcare today. She believes advances in medicine and technology are miraculously preserving more lives than ever before. She wants to help ensure that these people can live their lives to the fullest.

 

Benedict Stollberg is a physical therapy student at Marquette University. He is pursuing a career in physical therapy, because he believes it fits with his personality and lifestyle. He enjoys interacting with patients and strives in helping patients with problems and disabilities achieve their goals and potential functional outcomes. So far he has enjoyed his physical therapy experiences and feels that this enjoyment will transfer to better all around care for the patients that he will be treating. 

 

Sara Fajardo is a physical therapy student at Northern Illinois University. After researching different professions, a career in physical therapy appealed to her the most because she found the outcome of helping others a reward in itself. Once she is a physical therapist, her goal is to be actively involved in her Hispanic community and to educate them on the importance and benefits of proper rehabilitation through physical therapy. This is very important to her as she believes that often times the Latino culture doesn't fully understand the benefits of physical therapy.
