Our user asked: "The PT holds my knee flat with pressure to the mat after ten minutes of moist therapy. They want to do 30 seconds of hold three times. Is this too long for the first treatment? The pain is very bad."
Ask a PT Response: "A 30 second hold for a stretch is not uncommon given your condition and status. Since you are experiencing a high level of pain, perhaps you could suggest to your therapist to hold the stretch for a shorter duration ie. 15 seconds and perform it for 4 times. This may allow for increase tolerance for you. Studies have shown that a hold of at least 15 seconds is required in order to achieve gains with tissue pliability, range of motion and flexibility. Best of luck to you." |
