They want to do 30 seconds of hold three times. Is this too long for the first treatment? The pain is very bad."<br><br><b>Ask a PT Response:</b> "A 30 second hold for a stretch is not uncommon given your condition and status. Since you are experiencing a high level of pain, perhaps you could suggest to your therapist to hold the stretch for a shorter duration ie. 15 seconds and perform it for 4 times. This may allow for increase tolerance for you. Studies have shown that a hold of at least 15 seconds is required in order to achieve gains with tissue pliability, range of motion and flexibility.
