Our user asekd: "Hi I'm 27 male 150 pounds from Pakistan I kicked a wall and injured my knee very badly this was two months ago did rest for two months and got physical therapy ultra sound and tens and ice did it for 20 days pain is gone but I can bend my knee but not in a squatting position when i do knee flexion it really hurts and when doctor did a Mc Murray's knee test it hurt when flexion and the skin becomes very tight and shinny and same with If I do more than two repetitions of leg extension I feel pain in center of the joint line and a click and if I try to pick up a pillow it really hurts and when I walk on a sloped floor I feel pain and my quads muscles are very weak I can feel my thigh bone I have stopped physical therapy I will be very very grateful if you can help me suggest any exercise or which therapy will be the best Thank you My MRI report says High intensity signal is seen in supracondylar region and upper end of tibia in stir coronal images appears subtle low signal in t 1 weighted images suggestive of bone bruise. mild joint effusion is noted. intact anterior cruciate ligament , posterior cruciate ligament and collateral ligament subtle high intenisty signal in the posterior horn of medial meniscus suggestive of grad 1 tear."

Ask a PT Response: "You stated your MRI indicated a grade I menicus tear. How did you tear it? Usually a grade one tear is not as serious compared to a grade two or three tear and the patient can recover with participation in physical therapy. However, if you are still having issues at your meniscus, this could be the reason you continue to experience pain with the activities which you mentioned. It sounds like you took the right steps as far as recovering from this injury with resting and participating in physical therapy, but is your physical therapist aware of your current status and pain levels? If not, I suggest that you contact him or her and see if you cna obtain any insight as he or she will know you best. Since, you continue to experience pain it may also not be a bad idea to consult with your orthopedic MD again as well. As far as recommending exercises for you, it would probably be best to perform the exercises which were recommended by your therapist. Should you have pain with a particular exercise it would be best if you back off with the exercise or cease doing it altogether. I wish you the best of luck with your recovery."
