 Advances in Pain Management (Free CEU Course)

Course Description
Advances in Pain Management” will review various treatment alternatives available for the management of pain. The course will focus on enhancing the understanding of pain practices and its correlation to physical therapy through a multidisciplinary approach including: interventions, rehabilitation, and coping with the residual effects of pain.

Course Objectives
1) Gain a further understanding of acute pain as compared to chronic pain.

2) Develop a comprehension of the multidisciplinary ladder approach to pain management – NSAIDS (over the counter drugs), physical therapy/manipulation/TENS /muscle relaxants, then possible nerve blocks, behavioral programs including psychiatric evaluation, Long-term oral opioids, Implantable therapies neurostimulation or intrathecal pain therapy, Neuroablation (chemical or surgical).

3) Gain additional knowledge of interventional treatments available and potential indications for each – Epidural Steroid injections (ESI), Facet Blocks, Sympathetic Blocks, Radiofrequency Ablation, Spinal Cord Stimulation, Intrathecal Pumps. 

4) Develop a clearer understanding of Neuromodulation therapies: Present and Future, Ranging from- OCD, Parkinson ’s disease, Essential Termor, Severe Spasticity, Chronic Pain, epilepsy, Migraine headache pain, nonopoid chronic pain.

5) Review the “Gate Theory “and Spinal Cord Stimulators (SCS) as well as common indications for SCS- Failed Back Surgery Syndrome, Arachnoiditis , Raynauds, Complex Regional pain syndrome (CRPS), Peripheral Neuropathy and Nerve Lesions, Post-Amputation Pain, Post-Herpetic Neuralgia,  Intercostal Neuralgia.

6) Have a better understanding of Spinal Cord Stimulator Objectives.

 

About the Speakers
Dr. Yogendra Bharat completed his residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and board certified by the American Board of Pain Medicine and the American Board of Anesthesiology. He has specialized in chronic/acute pain treatment for several years. He is dedicated to the treatment of pain associated with headaches, neck & back problems, and trauma-related pain syndromes. He is currently practicing at Advanced Pain Management (APM) in WI and is also a Clinical Associate Professor at UW Madison teaching area residents the complexity and dedication required for the treatment of chronic pain.
Dr. Kostandinos Tsoulfas - completed his undergraduate training at Wisconsin Lutheran College. From there he received his medical degree from Memorial University in Canada. He then returned to WI were he successfully completed a residency in Family Practice through the University of Wisconsin at St. Lukes Hospital. He is board eligible in Family Practice & Pain Medicine. During his residency training, he focused on pain management in a primary care setting. He is currently practicing at APM and is a member of the implant team there which specializes in the implantation of intrathecal narcotic & baclofen pumps.
