   Our user asked: "Hi: I injured my foot walking around the neigborhood in mid-March as it was recommended by my Spinal Doctor to get some gentle exercise and to lose weight. After 3 weeks of terrific left foot (heel/arch) pain, on 4/6/10 I went to a Foot Doctor. Since then I have had 2 Cortisone Injections (relief lasted no more than an hour), wear a Night Splint, was then given a Huge Walking Boot for Daytime use and have been in Physical Therapy at the foot doctors office 3x a week. The physical therapy that the girl (not a PT) does is only Electrical Stimulation. I am afraid they may be using up my insurance benefits for PT when more variety of PT might be needed? My insurance year runs through 3/31/2011 and I don't want to waste the coverage if more shoud be done than just Elec Stim which seems to be doing nothing to help! I have lost 41 pounds in the past 3 months so I am not overweight. My weight loss doctor said to get another opinion but the foot doctor is ordering/fitting me for orthodics tomorrow (6/4). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You"

Ask a PT Response: "I am disappointed to hear that the only treatment you received thus far has just been electrical stimulation. I would not consider this treatment alone physical therapy. With this condition there are a variety of other treatment options which are performed as well to assist with maximizing gains and restoring function (ie. exercises, stretching, manual therapy, modalities, etc.). I would recommend you speak with the PT in charge and inquire why the only treatment you have been receiving has only been e-stim. From what you describe I really don't see any restrictions as far as treatment plan goes unless your MD had issued specific restrictions and your PT is simply following them. With the costs of healthcare and the limitations with insurances, it would only be natural for you to to be concerned with your situation. Best of luck to you."
