Our user asked: "Often after walking for about 45 minutes and then sitting for a short period of about 5-10 minutes, I have heel pain that seems worse with dorsiflexion. What do you think might be causing this, and what are your recommendations? Also, can you recommend some peroneal strengthening exercises besides theraband and ankle weight eversion? Thanks!"

Ask a PT Response: "A number of items could be contributing to your heel pain after ambulating extended distances including but not limited to: poor footwear, decrease joint mobility, decrease flexibility, decrease gait mechanics, decrease strength/endurance, decrease posture, leg length discrepancy, etc... Various conditions can contribute to heel pain as well such as: plantar fasciitis, tarsal tunnel syndrome, heel spurs, achilles tendonitis, contusion, etc... It would probably be best to see a PT so that he or she can determine what may be contributing to your pain and what condition you may have so that a plan of care can be developed."
