I have a knee that was never fully rehabbed from ACL reconstruction back in ~2002 so it is still pretty weak and can't take as much as my L knee. I've started trying to rehab it by carefully playing Judo. Last Saturday I slipped on some underbrush and temporarily caught my self by momentarily landing straight on my R (weak) leg ( I some how always seem to catch my self with my weak leg, have yet to figure that one out or figure out how to stop it). When I landed I heard a crunch, but it really didn't hurt, my knee mostly bothered me for the rest of the day. Now I occasionally hear a sort of popping sound when I walk around, though I don't feel it and am hoping it's just swelling because then it will go away with time but am wondering if I should be at all concerned that something is catching, loose, etc.. Thanks"

Ask a PT Response: "As always with any injury, it is a good idea to seek medical attention from your MD or PT. Usually for my patients who might have had a similiar incident happen to their knee s/p ACL reconstruction, I would be more concerned if they were experiencing pain with movement. A popping noise could be a variety of things including swelling. I would also check the integrity of the ACl graft and check for laxity or complain of pain from the patient. If the condition at your knee worsens, it would probably be a good idea to see your doctor or PT. "
