About a year a go I slipped and fell on my left hip, and it was pretty painful but nothing major seemed to result, just a big bruise and some hip flexor pain. Prior to the fall I add been running regularly and continued to do so afterwards. But it seems like since the fall my left thigh has become significantly slimmer, by about .5 inch than the right thigh. I know that the body is not asymetrical but it seems like it is actual fat still there and not just a bigger muscle. This is something that really bothers me and demotivates me from continuing to run. I wasn't sure if I had knocked myself out of alignment after the fall, or something. Is there a way for this right thigh to "catch up" with the left thigh?"

Ask a PT Response: "How long did you have the pain for? From what you have described, you may have incurred atrophy (shrinking) of your quad muscles. This is a common occurence in patients who I see who have sustained some kind of lower extremity injury and experiencing pain. As a result of the pain their is decrease use of their quad muscle which could contribute to atrophy. As far as an alignment issue, it is a possibility because of the fall. Physical therapy would definitely be appropriate for this condition especially if this is affecting function."
