The pain is right alongside and under my LEFT knee cap. It hurts (a twinge) when I go down stairs, if I twist my leg, or sometimes when I walk (especially in heels). It also seems to come and go. There's no swelling or tenderness. In addition to that, yesterday I began getting a pain in my RIGHT knee/leg where the mcl is. The pain is only on some steps when I walk, especially if I fully extend my leg. Again it's a sharp twinge, and there's no swelling or tenderness, but combined these pains are making it uncomfortable and slightly painful to walk. What is causing them, and what can I do? Thanks."<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV><strong>Ask a PT Response:</strong> "Pain described as a sharp twinge with negotiating stairs or twisting the knee could be associated with conditions such as a meniscus tear, osteoarthritis or patellofemoral pain syndrome. Definitely discontinue running as it appears this may be the contributing factor to the development of your pain. In your case, sudden participation with an activity which your body is not use to can result in additional stresses which may result in injury. It may be a good idea to consult with your MD or PT at this time to help you determine that you do not have any tissue damage and to assist you with return to running."</DIV>]]>
