Author: Ask a PT
Subject: 1473
Posted: Jun 10 2013 at 9:44am

Our user asked: "Months ago on stretching exercises noted that I could cross my right leg over myleft leg in sitting position but could not press down because of pain. Progressed until now cannot put sock on rt foot with leg crossed. I am active 72, play golf regularly, not overweight 6' 184lbs. and have developed pain at hip joint, stiffness in the am. When loose am fairly pain free. Have stopped golf and am on the mend but still have flexion problem. What is up with that."

Ask a PT Response: "Much of the symptoms you are describing could be consistent with osteoarthritis. Have you consulted with your physician and have you had an x-ray taken of your hip? The medical imaging would help rule OA out. Otherwise, if you were to see a PT, he or she would be able to conduct an examination on you and give you a better idea of what may be going on at your hip and low back."
