CMS has just published a new guidance in anticipation of a November 27th Transmittal with some policy changes for Medicare effective January 1st, 2007.

Important Therapy updates include:

Changes in the outpatient recertification requirement from once every 30 days to once every 90 days in all settings, including CORF's. This becomes effective January 1, 2008.

Pages: 637-638

By mid- year 2008 CMS has stated that they will provide manual clarification regarding the implementation of applicable outpatient policies to the inpatient hospital setting. as well as implementation of new qualification standards of who can provide and be reimbursed for skilled therapy services from the outpatient setting to all settings. (This rule will have a 2 year delay in implementation.) page 631

Additional Consideration of student supervision comparable to SNF "line of sight" is being considered. Page 636
