Author: Ask a PT
Subject: 1000
Posted: Jun 06 2012 at 12:59pm

Our user asked: "I have been in physical therapy for about three months now for suspected peroneal tendinitis in both of my feet. I have not gotten much better with treatment. The whole time I have been in PT and for months before, I have had a lot of lower back achy-ness and I believe I am fairly lordotic. Is it possible that I do not really have tendinitis and instead have a projection of pain from some nerve in my back? And
another weird thing seems to be that wearing shoes at all seems to worsen the pain, as though it does not have to do with the pressure in my feet but more with the mere constriction of the shoe. Thanks"

Ask a PT Response: "Does your pain radiate down to your feet? If not, more than likely your condition probably is not associated with the back. Have you had any medical imaging of your back? A MRI would be able to give your MD and PT a better idea of whay may be going on. Do you have pain with ankle eversion and weakness with ankle eversion, along with tenderness at the outside of the ankle? These are the most common signs with peroneal tendonitis."
