Our user asked: "Hello I am a first time mother with no help from any body that has had a baby before so it is a little hard for me to know what to do, my concern is that my son has not started walking yet and he is 19 months old, i would like to ask you if you have any suggestions i can teach my son top have him get on his own."

Ask a PT Response: "I have a few questions to ask you to see if your son has reached all the pre-ambulation milestones...
Has he been creeping, crawling, and cruising?
Can he move into and out of sitting?
Is he climbing up/creeping up stairs yet?
And how is his communication/social behavior for his age?
Does he seem to have good trunk and head control with movements?
If you answer yes to all these questions, developmental momentum is in your child's favor.

These are all things I'd want to look at.  That being said, the documented ceiling age for onset of independent ambulation is 17-18 months.  If you are able to it may be a good idea to obtain a comprehensive evaluation for potential developmental delays if your child continues to experience delays with walking."
