Our user asked: "I have bilateral hip fractures from a car accident and am nonweight bearing. Is it okay for me to propell myself backwards in my wheelchair for quad strengthening? I dont feel as though this is weight bearing but wanted to be sure."

Ask a PT Response: "You might still be exerting some forces on your hips as you are gripping the floor with your ankle/foot when propelling which may exert forces onto your hip in sitting which might be contraindicated. I'd check with your ortho if that would be OK before doing so."
