Our user asked: "I had TKA in early Oct. 2010. I am a male, 59. I am doing fairly well but limp somewhat and definitely have quad deficit. I am doing tradit. quad exercises. What do you feel about also using NMES for strengthening my quad?"

Ask a PT Response: "NMES is definitely an appropriate modality to utilize to assist with quadriceps strengthening. I often utilize it in conjunction with my patient performing quad sets, short arch quads, long arch quads and with terminal knee extension in standing with resistance. There are various currents the therapist can utilize on the patient. I have found Russian current to work well with my patients."
