Our user asked: "TkR Sept 14. Quad sparing. Released from hospital early -little pain-good pt. Started outpatient PT immediately. Did well -worked agressively--even to the point of gym days in beteen pt days following same exercise with addition of bike. OK by PT. Monday ROM measured 117 --me--120 PT push. Friday ROM measured 105-107. Patella hardly moving. I am massaging incesion and surronding area. Could this be the beginning of Arthrofibrosis. My Pt gave me no reason for setback when asked. She just reminded me of earlier accomplishments thanks"

Ask a PT Response: "Given the time frame of your surgery and your participation in physical therapy along with your range of motion acheivements, chances are unlikely that you are developing arthrofibrosis. Many of my patients who have underwent a TKA will have good and bad days. Increase edema or pain could be limiting factors which could affect range of motion. How is your knee doing now? Have you achieved greater range of motion the next time your therapist took measurements?"
