Our user asked: "Good day to you. Please could you help me. I have 'lumps' just below my knees (the right side is much bigger than my left side) and growing. I went to the doctor and he said I have Anserine Bursitis. He tried extracting the fluid with a syringe but he said the 'sac' was too thick and couldn't do it. He has given me an anti inflammatory. I now have shooting pains up and down my legs. I have not had a sports injury and I am not on my feet all day or kneeling at all so I don't understand why I would have this. Do you think I have been diagnosed correctly. It's a distinct lump more than swelling. Your help in this regard would be much appreciated."

Ask a PT Response: "Anserine bursitis is imflammation of the bursa located at the inside of the knee. http://www.cyberpt.com/cptcondtrtpesanserinebursitis.asp - http://www.cyberpt.com/cptcondtrtpesanserinebursitis.asp It is pretty odd that you have this condition on both sides and you have not done anything to have caused inflammation to the area. Since your condition has not improved, it may be a good idea to consult with an orthopedic specialist. He or she will be better able to determine what condition you may have. Good luck."
