Our user asked: "tib-fib fx. jan 20 orif rod in tibia jan 21. feb. 6 stitches removed and boot, pwb. I was never referred to a pt and I feel it would be very helpful for my healing. I heard that aqua therapy is amazing. At this point would it be safe and helpful to get into a pool? What type exercises should I be doing if I get into a pool? Thanks"

Ask a PT Response: "The incisions have to be well healed before you can enter the pool to avoid infection. What are you as far as PWB? 25%, 50%, etc? One must also take into consideration the depth of water and corresponding forces through the body which are as follows: water at waist level = 50% of your body weight, chest level = 75% of body weight, and neck level = 90% of body weight. Therefore depending the depth of water, your PWB status will be affected. The best thing for you to do would be for you to consult with your surgeon to inquiry if it would be OK to go into the pool or even perhaps obtaining an order to participate in physical therapy.
