Our user asked: "I have a pain in the fifth metatarsal. The pain is localized with I walk. It hurts to push on it. So I was thinking it was a stress fracture but I when I run the pain shoots from the metatarsal to my heel. It is possible or probable that this is a nerve and not a stress fracture?"
Ask a PT Response: "Why do you suspect a stress fracture? Did you sustain trauma to this region or perform an activity which could result in a stress fx? It isn't too common to have a nerve be affected in this region of your foot unless you have developed a neuroma of some kind. It is possible to experience some radiating pain when a fractured site is stressed. If you are concerned with this, it may be a good idea to seek out further medical attention. Best of luck to you."
