Our user asked: "i have a friend who is a double amputee and resides in a nursing home at the moment, he has just recieved his prosthetic legs and is in need of therapy to learn how to walk again, this man is in his 60's, and bound and determined to go home and walk again but he needs help, the facility he is in stopped therapy because he "ran out of medicare days". are there any alternative programs for him."

Ask a PT Response: "Not knowing the exact details behind your friend's situation, I would recoommend that he speak with the social worker or PT at the nursing home to see what else can be done in order to meet his goals during his stay. I find it very disheartening to hear that a facility would cease PT services altogether especially since he just received his prosthetic legs. I know once your friend is discharged from the nursing home your friend should be able to participate in PT in an outpatient hospital physical therapy clinic which doesn't have a cap:

I wish your friend the best of luck. "
