Our user asked: "I have been suffering from severe neck pain from a long time. After getting all tests done, the results are- WHO category of Ostopenia, very low levels of Vitamin D and mild disc bulges at C3-C4 to C5-C6 causing minimal indentation of the ventral aspect of the thecal sac. My doctor has advised me that physio theraphy might be counter productive in my condition and I need to to take vitamin D (Calcirol Sachets - once a week) and Calcium (Shelcal 500 - 2 pills daily) and nueroboin forte for a few months and correct my posture. However I have a desk job that requires me to sit in front of the PC for about 9=10 hours daily and it is becoming increasingly difficult to continue work. I did take a weeks rest in the middle but the pain was back after i returned to work. Please help!"

Ask a PT Response: "I will have to disagree with the doctor on this one and believe that Physical Therapy would be appropriate for a condition such as yours. The fact that you work at the computer 9-10 hours a day is not a help to your posture or the herniated discs. A Physical Therapist could look at your posture in sitting and advise you on ways to change your positioning so as to reduce cervical pain. Exercises can also be incorporated throughout the day to assist with strengthening, range of motion or flexibility issues. Manual therapy procedures can also be performed by the PT to help with other issues. I guess you will really never know if therapy will help with your condition until you have tried. Best of luck to you."
