Our user asked: "My daughter and I were in a MVA she braced on the dash and sustained a rotator cuff injury. The other driver was at fault and her ins company will not pay for the therapy the Orthepedic surgeon prescribed. They want me to pay first then pay me back. I have no health ins. and cannot afford to do this. What can I do with her at home. the DR. said if she doesn't have the therapy scar tissue will build up and she may then need surgery. I can't find a therapist in my area that will help me!! They want $150/week to see her and I just can't afford it. (that's a co-pay since i don't have medical insurance."

Ask a PT Repsonse: "What kind of injury did your daugther sustain? ie. rotator cuff tear, labal tear, biceps tear, etc.. For my patients that have sustained a shoulder injury it is a good idea to have them maintain range of motion (ROM) and strength. ROM exercises can include wand exercises, seated shoulder exercises on the table and Pendulum exercises. Strengthening exercises can include both isometric and resistive exercises for the shoulder. Samples of these exercises which I prescribe to my patients can be found on our exercise video page. I know that you mention that your financial situation is difficult right now, but it may be a good idea to see a therapist for at least one visit, so that he or she can evaluate your daugther and issue her a home exercie program along with progression exericses which woud be tailored to her specific needs."
