Our user asked: "For a while now I've been experiencing pain in the rear of the leg. I rested it for a while yet it persists. The pain only occurs when running and is incredibly painful when sprinting. The pain is sharp and localized to the back of the right leg, slightly below the buttocks. My first thought was hamstring strain but it's so high up that I'm not sure. It's slightly to the inside side of the leg as well and when the pain starts up the area between the localized pain and the inside side of the thigh becomes tender."
Ask a PT Response: "Your condition could be a number of things. The proximal attachment of the hamstring is located at the ischial tuberosity which is just below the buttocks. Thus, hamstring involvement is still a possibility given your desription. Since you stated you have been experiencing this condition for quite awhile now, it may be a good idea for you to consult with your MD or PT to determine what exactly is contributing to your pain. Good luck." |
