Our user asked: "I recently pulled something in my lower back/gluteus and it really hurts when I run. It's been hurting for about a week now. I've tried resting and icing it, but it doesn't seem to heal. However, when I take naproxen sodium tablets and use Icy Hot, it feels fine. Is there anything I could do to further alleviate the pain and speed up the healing process?"

Ask a PT Response: "You could have pulled a variety of muscles in that region. It would be very difficult to determine which muscle(s) is involved without physically evaluating you. It may be a good ideal to consult with a PT to determine the etiology or cause of the pain and to obtain a treatment plan. For a strained muscle, gentle stretching, strengthening, manaul therapy, modalities and functional training are just some of the techniques a PT can utilize to assist with helping the patient improve. Good luck and thank you for using CyberPT."
