Our user asked: "I am having pain in my left leg almost like my bone is being scraped. It causes pain to shoot up and down my leg and throbbing ranging from my knee clear to my ankle. It also hurts to walk at times, mainly stairs. There is no swelling. I have been told it could be shin splints or a stress fracture. I only have a month left in my sport(soccer). If I continue to participate in activity with either of these issues will it make it worse and how so? I really want to finish out the season it's my last with this particular team. I just don't know how much risk is involved and if it is worth it."

Ask a PT Response: "Have you had any medical imaging performed ie. X-ray, MRI? Given what you describe, if you were my patient I would advise against continuing to participate in soccer as you could do further damage to the affected region or to other areas secondary to compensation. If you have not sought out medical attention, it would probably be a good idea so that you can get a better understanding of what is going on. Best of luck to you."
