The operation takes less time than a Total Hip Replacement. There are minimally invasive techniques available now which helps less pain and faster recovery.

Many people also go for Hip Resurfacing. Unlike Hip Replacement, hip resurfacing does not involve the removal of the femoral head and neck. Hip Resurfacing is less invasive and rehabilitation after the operation is quicker. Birmingham Hip Resurfacing technology is recently approved by FDA in USA, but is been performed in other countries like UK, India for many years.

After seeing your X-rays / MRI, your doctor and you will decide on what is the best surgery for you. No matter, which procedure you go for, rehabilitation is important for good outcome.

She does not have insurance so having physical therapy at a clinic will not be something she can afford. Do you have any suggested videos that will help her through her healing process?"

Ask a PT Response: "Here is a link to a site which has some very good exercises along with progression for patients that have undergone a partial or total hip replacement: http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00303 It is always best to consult with the surgeon or hospital PT prior to beginning any exericse program. Best of luck to your mother in her recovery."
