Author: Ask a PT
Subject: 846
Posted: May 07 2011 at 1:53pm

Our user asked: "I Go to therapist for more than one body part meaning, I go for my elbow, hip and ankle and they are doing Phonphoresis, on each body part every day. They take turns Monday Thurs is ankle, Tues, Fri is Hip. What I want to know is it safe to do phono on you for a 3 month period? Please let me know."

Ask a PT Response: "You have been receiving phonophoresis for three months now? Has there been any improvement with your conditions? Phonophoresis is usually not utilized for this long of a period as the 10% hydrocortisone utilized with ultrasound is intended to assist with decreasing inflammation. If it is going to work it should have worked by now after three months. Other treatment interventions should be considered if there is no marked improvement with your conditions."
