Author: Ask a PT
Subject: 810
Posted: Feb 16 2011 at 2:39pm

Our user asked: "I am a 67 yr. old male in excellent shape. I eat well, exercise ~ three times a week at a local health-plex and I don't smoke. After warming up and jogging around an indoor track a few times, I decided to try a couple of wind sprints. Bad idea. I pulled up short with a pain in my lower abdomen, a little on the right side. I had a groin pull on the left side about two months ago that still bothers me, now this. What can I do and how long will it take..? Thank you for your sage advice."

Ask a PT Response: "For my patients who have consulted me with this condition, the best thing to do is for them to take a break from all activities which aggravate the condition. If symptoms continue to persist, I would have them consult with their MD. The MD would definitely want to rule our sports hernia: http://www.cyberpt.com/CyberPTsprtshlthSprtsHrn.asp . If PT is appropriate, the patient would return to me. "
