I do not wear any knee supports because I lost my ACL brace when I moved to houston and several years ago my muscles got dependent on a kneoprene support I was using. My sensei has advised me several times to use a knee support or wresting pad while I am waiting for my job to give me insurance coverage so I can buy another ACL brace. But I am scared that my muscles will become dependent on any Neoprene knee brace or wrestling pads I use and that will defeat the purpose of getting it stronger and more stable and have often heard that store bought supports aren't worth getting for such reasons and because they don't help as much as people think. Do you know if wearing sleeve will affect my knee or how much a wrestling pad will help or hurt?"

Ask a PT Response: "For my patients who have similiar conditions such as yours, I would recommend to them to utilize a knee brace when they know that their knee may be stressed to allow for added protection/stability. Meanwhile they are instructed to continue to work on strengthening/stabilization of the knee without the brace on to to facilitate building increase strength and stabilization. "
