Our user asked: "I have already researched about Guillain-Barre Syndrome but I would like to know from a Physical Therapist...what specific areas would your examination consist of? and what would your treatment interventions include?"

Ask a PT Response: "Examination can include the following but not limited to the following: observation, range of motion, strength, balance, coordination, gait, transfers, bed mobility, tone, posture, somatosensory/proprioception & sensation.

Treatment will depend on where the patient is in relationship to the condition. As the paralysis recedes and physical function returns, more advanced treatment options will be more appropriate. Treatment will be based on the evaluation and can include positioning, ROM, stretching, strengthening, postural training, functional training, gait training, balance training, manual therapy, PNF, modalities & patient/family education. I hope this helps."
