Author: Ask a PT
Subject: 734
Posted: Sep 22 2010 at 2:24pm

Our user asked: "I am a 52 y/o female. I have Multiple Sclerosis but stll able to walk. I also had breast cancer this past year and I am taking antiestrogen meds and IV med for osteoporosis. Bone scan results are severe osteopenia with osteoporosis in lumbar spine. Question is: what type of exercise would you recommend I do to strengthen my bones?"

Ask a PT Response: "Without physically examining you I would not be able to determine what would be best for you. For my patients with similiar conditions I would have them participate in aquatic therapy and perform low level strengthening and core exercises. Perhaps, it may be beneficial for you to consult with a PT in your area to obtain a plan of care tailored to your needs. I wish you the best of luck."
