Author: Ask a PT
Subject: 635
Posted: Apr 26 2010 at 8:49am

Our user asked: "I was doing the splits (left leg front, right leg back), and had a sharp pain in my left leg above the hamstring, below the glut. I saw my GP at week 1, who only provide anti-inflamatory. It has been six weeks, but it still hurts to sit for long periods, I have less flexiblity in my left leg, and although I can walk fine, I feel I am altering my gait when I run. Should I seek Physical therapy to help with this, and if so, what kind? Thank You!"

Ask a PT Response: "Since you have been experiencing symptoms for over 6 wks now, it may be a good idea to see a PT now. The PT should be able to determine what may be the cause of your condition and develop a plan of care specific to your needs. I would recommend seeing a PT who has experience in orthopaedics/sports medicine given your condition. Best of luck to you."
