In other words, how much damage is too much for therapy to be an effective treatment? Thanks!"

Ask a PT Response: "ACL sprains are classified as type I-III. Type III is a complete tear. Physical therapists can assist with all three of the injuries to help gain ROM, strength, fucntion, pain management, etc.. Most people can live with a Type III sprain/tear and function normally but it will depend on the patient's lifestyle. If the patient has a very active lifestyle which requires increase stability at the knee with performing various activities, than ACL reconstruction may be recommended. I hope this helps."
