Our user asked: "A few years ago i had a treatment called ion feresis. It cured my tendonitis. My sister now has tendonitis and no one seems to have heard of this treatment. It involved injecting a pad with anti-inflamitory and melting this into the tendon. I have googled it but I may not be spelling it correctly or remembering the name exactly right. Have you ever heard of this treatment? Please advise. Thank you so much"
 
Ask a PT Response: "I believe you are referring to iontophoresis treatment. An anti-inflammatory solution such as dexamethsone is delivered locally by the use of an electric current. Since the dexamethasone has a negative charge and the current has a negative charge, the dexamethasone is delivered into the affected region based on the principle that like charges repel. This is commonly used for treatment of tendonitis and can be administered by a physical therapist. I hope this helps."
