Author: Ask a PT
Subject: 427
Posted: Jul 07 2009 at 2:33pm

Our user asked: "On friday night I went out with a couple of friends to a place similar to Chuck E Cheese and stuff like that but for older kids. There they had this type of boxing where you would box with huge gloves and in an inflatable ring. So i started throwing punches at my friend and the first punch i threw i felt a sudden pop in my bicep. I felt this pop in the middle between my elbow and my shoulder. I have been using the RICE method and haven't been using my arm too much but the pain won't go away and i can't really move my arm in many directions. Any suggestions on what this could be? Thanks So Much"

Ask a PT Response: "There could be quite a few things going on with the most obvious being a biceps injury. The bicpes assists with bringing the elbow into flexion, the arm into flexion and the forearm into supination. These are all movements which you probably performed with the boxing game. If your condition has not improved by now, it may be a good idea to consult with your MD or PT to determine what the injury is and the plan of care required. Good luck!"
