Author: Ask a PT
Subject: 369
Posted: Feb 19 2009 at 4:13pm

Our user asked: "I've discovered this when i was playing basketball this season, and i was out for all of it. I went to a physical therapist for a while, but it never seemed to get better So my mom canceled my sessions. I still want to try it out for how long it would take to get it fixed i dont know if we could keep up with the money. Our insurance wasnt paying for the sessions. I cant keep up stretches, i have to much to do. But i am starting to get way out of shape...Today i did my one cardio (i run up and down my stairs for 5 songs; i couldnt even make one!!) I felt like my legs were going to collapse underneath me. Is there anything i can do??"

Ask a PT Response: "Compliance with a home exercise program is extremely important when it comes to recovery from an injury. My patients that come to physical therapy and are non compliant with their home exercise program tend to not fair as well as far as recovery time. My suggestion to you would be to make the extra time to perform the home exercise program which your therapist prescribed to you. Perform them dilligently for 2-3 wks and if your condition hasn't improved, return to your PT for a follow up visit to determine what else can be done. Good luck!"
