Author: Ask a PT
Subject: 1510
Posted: Apr 14 2014 at 3:39pm

Our user asked: "I work in the ultrasound field for over 20 years and have recently been diagnosed with a C5-6 and C6-7 herniation. I haven't seen the neurosurgeon yet and have been put on 'light duty' at work (workman's comp). In the meantime, with the herniation to the right, besides reducing my workload, what other tricks of the trade can you suggest I do to help my healing process? Thanks for your input and help."

Ask a PT Response: "For my patients with cervical disc herniation, I would usually prescribe McKenzie based exercises in addition to the manual therapy and traction techniques which I perform on them. Here is a good article which explains the McKenzie technique. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2504973/pdf/jcca00004-0053.pdf . Best bet would be to work with a PT for this condition. Best of luck to you."
