There are not two ways to do this. Instructions given to a patient for the formal manual muscle test of the supinators: "Turn your palm up toward the ceiling, and don't let me turn it back over." The patient is already in supination and resistance is applied into the direction of pronation. The patient resists pronation.

Some special tests call for resisted supination.  Are there two ways to do this?

1) The patient supinates his arm and u resist that.
2) You pronate the patient's arm and tell him to resist u. 
Are these the same thing?
