WOW! Who would have known it was that expensive. My insurance covered most of it and I ended up paying out $250 out of my own pocket. I was only seen 9 times and can't imagine how someone can afford PT if they didn't have insurance. I am not complaining because the therapist fixed my back but are the costs that high (avg was about $200/visit) for all the other places?

Aurora

11 Posts

Posted - 04/19/2006 : 18:52:24 Show Profile Reply with Quote
MSS,
Healthcare costs are escalating and insurance companies are becoming more stringent then ever in regards to reimbursing healthcare services. For physical therapy in particuliar, insurance companies are approving less visits and are expecting faster and better results from the physical therapists. Yes, the average cost, I would say, for a P.T. visit is about $200. However, this will vary greatly depending on what the therapist does with you. Despite your insurance company being billed $200, that is not what they actually pay out to healthcare providers. In fact, some insurance companies and plans pay out as low as 30 cents to the dollar. So if a company was billed $200 they would only pay out $60! At times like this, it is very important to have health insurance. If you don't you could be stuck with an $1,800 bill if you attended P.T. for 9 visits. I hope this helps.
