 Ergonomics: Practical Applications Certification Practicum

Over a course of 2-1/2 days, we will visit a combination of industrial, manufacturing, service, and office environments to experience the practical aspects of ergonomics jobsite assessment. Learn how to identify potential hazards, recommend cost effective jobsite modifications and hazard prevention controls, compile OSHA-compliant reports, and educate management on the cost benefits of an ergonomically sound workplace.

At the completion of this course and submission of your two written ergonomics jobsite assessment reports, you will be designated as a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist (CEASTM) and receive 1.8 CEUs.

Objectives: 

  • Visit selected industrial/manufacturing/service and office environments to experience the practical aspects of ergonomics jobsite assessment
  • Learn the elements and application of an OSHA ergonomics jobsite analysis form for office and industry
  • Identify and implement correct methods for controlling risk factors
  • Demonstrate and practice prevention strategies
  • Explain successful marketing techniques for ergonomics programs
  • Compose final ergonomics assessment reports for industrial/manufacturing/service  and office environments

You will visit actual Industrial/Healthcare/Manufacturing and VDT/Office/Computer work areas to observe workers and experience the practical aspects of Ergonomics Job-site Assessment.  In addition, you will learn how to recommend cost-effective job-site modifications and hazard prevention controls.

 

Day 1

• Introduction to Ergonomics: The Power Zone and Workplace Athlete 

• Review of OSHA’S Ergonomics Guidelines and Standards.

• Review and practice use of Job-site Evaluation Forms for Industrial/Healthcare/Manufacturing Jobs.

• Visit Industrial/Healthcare/Manufacturing work areas for practice of Job-site and Task Analysis.

• Review Industrial/Healthcare/Manufacturing work area assessments. 


Day 2

• Overview of Office Ergonomics -Job-site Evaluation Forms   for VDT/Office/Computer Workstation jobs.

• Risk reduction, modification and opportunities for improvement of   VDT/Office/Computer Workstation jobs.

• Visit VDT/Office/Computer Workstation environments for practice of Job-site and Task Analysis.

• Review VDT/Office/Computer Workstation work area assessments. 


Day 3

• Review and discuss Day One and Day Two Job-site Analyses and submission of one Industrial/Healthcare/Manufacturing and one VDT/Office/Computer WEAR (Worksite Ergonomics Analysis Report) form for certification.

• Overview and practice using additional ergonomics assessment tools. 

• Development of written “Draft” and “Final” Reports for clients. 

• Review of websites for cost-effective Job-site Modifications and Hazard Prevention Controls.

• ROI- calculating the cost and benefits of ergonomics for business. 

• Marketing of ergonomics programs.

About Certification
The workshop certifies that you are able to perform a basic office and industrial/manufacturing/healthcare ergonomics analysis using OSHA ergonomics assessment tools. After successfully completing the workshop and submitting two ergonomics analysis reports you will be awarded your certification designating you as a Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist I (CEAS I™).

Continuing Education Units
Most professionals receive the standard 1/10 of a unit per contact hour. This workshop is approved for 1.8 CEUs in most states.
